Quantify the actual attenuation of hearing protectors and verify the wearer's protection (no overprotection, no underprotection, and compliance with legal requirements).

This protocol is applied to the results of Microphone In Real Ear (MIRE), an objective acoustic fitting test method for custom earplugs with 2 channels. The test is conducted while the earplug is worn by the user under high noise exposure (> 85 dB(A)).

The graph displays the residual sound level resulting from the measurement of sound pressure beneath the earplug by the microphone. This should not exceed the red line representing the health-related safe threshold value. Furthermore, the difference in sound pressure between the 2 microphones reflects real-world attenuation, presented as a single value (SNR MIRE) and related frequency groups (High-Mid-Low). Finally, based on the user's personal daily noise exposure level (Lep,d), the protective function is assessed, taking into account locally applicable legal requirements, health-based safe limits, and communication preservation.
